What’s in a name? Why are we given names before we have a chance to discover who we really are. I know that as a child I was given the name Horse Teeth but I knew that it wasn’t who I was really meant to be. When I changed my name to Blue, the other villagers in Amber were confused and often angry. One, no one in the village has ever seen the color blue because it is largely blocked out by the dense, toxic acorn haze. Two, no one in the village had ever thought to change their name before. “Names are descriptive,” they would say to me. But I think a name should be aspirational.
I changed mine a few years ago and haven’t looked back.
